The project preserves the familiar character of the existing streetscape while introducing a more expressive composition at the side and rear, where a series of carefully articulated volumes expands the home’s relationship with its landscape. From the street, the original house maintains its established presence within the neighborhood. Beyond this familiar façade, however, the architecture shifts. Four distinct volumes step forward and back across the rear elevation, creating a sculptural composition that feels playful yet disciplined. Black horizontal siding and crisp white vertical boards reinforce the changing geometry, giving each form a clear identity while tying the addition into a cohesive whole. Large openings draw daylight deep into the interior and frame views toward the surrounding green space. The material palette continues inside, where natural wood, creamy white cabinetry, and subtly textured finishes establish a warm, contemporary atmosphere. The main level brings the home’s shared spaces into a continuous sequence. A foyer, den, and powder room lead into an open kitchen, living, and dining area designed around the rhythms of family life. From here, the interior extends onto a broad cedar deck. Its stepped form echoes the massing of the addition above, creating an outdoor room that descends gradually toward the backyard, where a mature apple tree and tall hedges establish a sense of enclosure. Upstairs, the home accommodates a primary suite with a walk-in closet and ensuite, alongside three additional bedrooms, a home office, and a shared bathroom. Generous windows frame views toward Conrose Park and connect each room to the changing landscape beyond. Through a careful balance of preservation and transformation, the design retains a respectful relationship with the home’s historic context while creating a more flexible and expressive residence tailored to contemporary family life.
